Woodcock

Showing the single result

Woodcock is a migratory bird that breeds mainly in northern and eastern European countries. However, a few sandpipers nest in France. The first sandpipers arrive in mid-October. They are faithful to their wintering grounds from year to year, and are called “woodcock beds”. These places are found above all in the presence of «mirrors» white and round fecal spots left at the time of flight. The highest concentrations are observed in Brittany, the Cotentin and the North, as well as in the South-West. During the day, the woodcock returns to the forest. It leaves it at dusk to frequent, at night, the meadows, where it feeds mainly on worms and larvae that it catches by sinking its long beak in the soft soil
